Yes, 5 years ago. The red light district is truly awful, not just because it's a red light district but because it's full of beggars and homeless people and you genuinely don't feel safe, although safety in numbers etc..
The rest of Hamburg is suberb, great place. And if you get in a cab and the driver is old just start talking about Kevin Keegan.

Went a few years ago and it's quite a good laugh.
Went to a St Pauli match, a proper atmosphere in the stand, beer all through the game and friendly enough bunch.
The whores are everywhere, couldn't even pop out of the pub for a smoke without having to bat them away.

Went a few years back, caught a Hamburg game, ate lots of shit food, drank good beer and walked around a lot as it's a nice city. I also tried to get two brasses to scissor for €50, but one had a crisis of religion midway through negotiating. She was okay to play with my little lad (couldn't fuck a brass personally), but not another bird! Who knew they could be fussy!?

Yes, but I was mostly working, so I can't tell you what it's like.
I did see enough to decide to visit it properly, but I can't remember why I decided that.
Pretty sure it wasn't just Mendelssohn's statue near the site of his house, which was destroyed in WWII.
